The Relative Strength Index explained

RSI (Relative Strength Index) is a momentum oscillator that measures the speed and magnitude of recent price changes on a scale of 0 to 100. Developed by J. Welles Wilder Jr. in 1978, it is one of the most widely used technical indicators in stock market analysis.

The standard interpretation is simple: an RSI below 30 suggests the asset is oversold and may be due for a bounce, while an RSI above 70 suggests it is overbought and may be due for a pullback. The default period is 14 trading days, but you can configure any period.

0 – 30
Oversold
Potential buy signal — asset may be undervalued short-term
30 – 70
Neutral
No strong signal — momentum is balanced
70 – 100
Overbought
Potential sell signal — asset may be overextended
